Goalie Announcements (Nov 11)
It's a relatively quiet night in the NHL, thanks to the Remembrance Day and Veteran's Day holidays in Canada and the US, so it makes for a quick post about tonight's keepers. We'll do the preview first, because it's really easy, and then we'll look at where we stand through a couple nights.
In the first game of the night, the Pittsburgh Penguins will host the Montreal Canadiens and it will be Marc-Andre Fleury (John R.) taking on Mike Condon (non-pool) in a game that has no bearing on the survivor pool. John's team is trying to work its way out of the basement again and could really do with a win tonight to help that cause.
On the West Coast, the late game will see the Edmonton Oilers head into Anaheim to take on the Ducks. It sounds like the only pool goalie will belong to the home team, as Frederik Andersen (Benson) who is starting to find his feet again, will take on Anders Nilsson (non-pool), who is sharing reps these days with Cam Talbot. Again, no survivor pool implications here.
So, what have we seen so far? We opened the week with 10 teams qualified for Week Six's portion of the survivor pool and since we had a busy night on Tuesday, 12 games, we had five teams qualify for Week Seven, leaving five more to struggle for the last four nights of the week.
Scott, Derek W., Dale B., John P. and Ryan have all qualified for next week, while Stuart, Jeremy, Stacey M., Allan and Mike are all without wins through a couple of nights. Allan had the only chance of possibly getting a win on Wednesday night, but he has the back-up goalie for Pittsburgh, Jeff Zatkoff, even dressing tonight and it seems unlikely that he'll do that for him tonight.
There will be lots more action this week, so there should be a decent amount of starts for those staying in the pool for another week.
