Morning Player Notes in the Draft (Nov 7)
We're awaiting word on the severity of the knee injury that Alex Tanguay suffered last night, when his Avalanche played against the Rangers on Friday night. The 35-year old veteran's night came to a premature end after his first shift in the 3rd period, in a game where he failed to pick up any points. The Avalanche are already done for Week Five, so there may not be any immediate updates until the start of Week Six, giving him some time to rest and maybe some time to help the swelling go down. There's certainly no rush to get that information out there at this point.
The veteran has turned out to be a decent pick for Grant this season, picking up 6 points and 10 PIM in 14 contests this year, contributing in the only two races he can on a semi-regular basis. Those numbers could certainly be better for a team that is mired in 22nd, last in the pool in goals scored and the leader for the Basement Dweller in the week.
Another mysterious lower-body injury has hit Chicago forward Artem Anisimov on Friday night, as he had to leave the game against New Jersey with the ailment and he didn't return to the game. We are currently awaiting word on the status of his injury, which should come some time soon this weekend, as the Blackhawks have a home date against the Oilers on Sunday night, the last game of Week Five. If Anisimov misses the game without an update, he'll be listed as out day-to-day.
John P. is in the mix for the money early on this season, as his team will go into a busy Saturday in 6th place, only 5 points out of the money and only 14 points out of 1st place. A good run, which may or may not need Anisimov, could get him into the conversation in the Newsletter on Monday morning.
