It looks like Dallas forward Ales Hemsky has yet to skate in a preseason game for the Dallas Stars and it sounds like it is a groin problem that is currently holding him back. One beat reporter says that bringing in UFA forward Justin Fontaine on a PTO on Thursday was somehow related to Hemsky's injury and a possible setback, but there didn't seem to be any confirmation of the sort. He'll be on the list as out day-to-day for now, but he is a long-time member of the Injury Prone List and would like to point out how much of a risk it would be to draft him... it's a high risk.
One injury note that fell through the cracks until now was Ottawa's Curtis Lazar, who was diagnosed with a case of mono a few weeks back. Lazar has returned to the ice since then, but in practice, is in a non-contact jersey and isn't quite back to 100% health yet. It sounds like he's well on his way back to 100% health and is now listed as out day-to-day for the time being. I believe the expectation is that he will be ready to go for opening night, but we'll wait and see what the team has to say on the lead up.
Another member of the Injury Prone List, Toronto's Tyler Bozak, is reportedly dealing with "an injury" and it doesn't sound like he's very active at Leafs camp at the moment. Bozak only played in 57 games last season, missing time on two separate occasions, the first being a lower-body injury and the second, more serious injury, was an upper-body injury, which cost him 21 games. In those 57 games, he did pick up 35 points, so he is still productive, when playing, but he remains a very risky pick, especially with this new news.
