Lots of Buffalo Sabres news for the blog over the last few days and it continued into through to the end of the preseason, as they may have lost forward Jack Eichel for an extended period of time. The top prospect of the Sabres suffered, what is being called a high ankle sprain, in practice today and we are still waiting for a concrete timetable for his possible return.
The sophomore forward was going to be a key part of the Sabres' success in the 2017 season, as he builds on what was a quality rookie season last year and was hoping to get a boost from playing with Team North America at the World Cup in September. Unfortunately, this won't be the case and he'll be on the injury list as out indefinitely for right now.
At the time of this post, Kristy & Don would have a couple hours to decide whether or not they would want to keep Eichel on their side for the coming year or they could drop him in the preseason waivers. The next Waiver Draft would go in Week Eight and then go live in Week Nine and at this point, there is no guarantee that Eichel would see any action in the first segment now.
Eichel was their 3rd round pick in the draft, taken with the 55th overall selection. It's a tough loss to take, a high pick like that, which would likely add to their consideration of whether or not to drop him.
