The goaltending battle behind Sergei Bobrovsky has lost a contestant, due to injury and not a demotion, as Joonas Korpisalo will miss the next four weeks with a groin injury. Korpisalo may have had the inside track for the back-up this season, as he had a very good campaign when Bobrovsky went down with injury and the Jackets needed some help in net. The 22-year old Finn appeared in 31 games for Columbus and finished the season ranked 31st among goalies in scoring with 32 points.
Upon his return to health, it would seem likely that he would spend some time in the AHL to rehab the injury.
The Philadelphia Flyers had a couple of their fringe players hit with some significant injuries this week and updates were dropped on Thursday afternoon. Forward Scott Laughton will miss the next four weeks worth of action with a lower-body injury, while defenseman Brandon Manning is considered week-to-week with an upper-body injury. Laughton, 22 years old, had a 21-point campaign in the 2016 season and is making strides for more ice-time, while Manning had 7 points in 56 games and is in a real battle for a roster spot. Neither seemed likely for the draft, unless someone really thinks they have sleeper value.
