The early feeling about Jonathan Quick's lower-body injury from the Kings' brass last night was not positive and the move on Thursday evening does not breed confidence either. The Kings have officially moved Quick to the Injured Reserve, saying that the injury will be a week-to-week issue.
Quick did not come out for the 2nd period on opening night against the Sharks on Wednesday, leaving the rest of the game to back-up goalie Jeff Zatkoff, a game that the Kings lost, 2-1, in the end.
The Kings will play host to the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night and it is expected that Peter Budaj will be called up to back-up Zatkoff in that one, making the new goaltending tandem moving forward. A tandem, which has no representation now in the hockey pool.
This is a big loss for the pool's first duo, Kristy & Don, especially in a shortened week and trying to get off the ground in the goalie survivor pool. More importantly, they have now lost the services of their 1st round pick, only days after losing their 3rd round pick to injury, Buffalo's Jack Eichel. They didn't get off to a bad start on Wednesday, picking up a few points, but it is a rough start, to say the least.
