Foot Fracture Sidelines Van Riemsdyk
On Monday morning, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they are now expecting to be without forward James Van Riemsdyk for the next 6-to-8 weeks, as he suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left foot this weekend. They didn't announce when or how he was injured, but he was short on his ice-time against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday evening, so there is a good chance he left that game early with the injury.
The scoring forward was already having a rough game, posting a -3 rating in the 7-0 loss to the Sharks, so the injury was quite the insult, that was tacked on in that one.
Van Riemsdyk has been pretty good this season, posting 14 goals and 29 points in 40 games with the Leafs this season, ranking 80th overall in pool scoring, so far this season. A ranking that will surely drop in the next month and a half, but there could be some solace taken, that he was a good pick, at the time.
Unfortunately for our reigning Basement Dweller, Stacey M., this bargain pick in the draft, a +61 in draft value, her team will have one less gunning forward to help her team bounce back from a terrible week. Van Riemsdyk was one of the five players on her team to post at least a point in last week's debacle, so her side will need a big push from everyone else to ensure they don't finish at the bottom of the week's standings again.
