Morning Player Notes in the Draft (Jan 14)

The Calgary Flames had themselves another roster rotation on Wednesday night, as Mason Raymond dropped back into the lineup against the Panthers and Joe Colborne was the player coming out, up in the press box as a healthy scratch.  Colborne has 5 goals and 15 points in 36 games for the Flames this season and has been far from consistent in the scoring department for the team.  This scratch will try to act like a kick in the rear end for his game.

Mike's forwards have been fairly regular in the lineup this season, as his team ranks tied for 7th in forward games played this year, not too far back from the pool leader, but his forwards haven't scored nearly where he would prefer, as they rank 25th in the pool at only 0.5 points per game.

In the game against Toronto last night, Columbus defenseman David Savard left the game with an upper-body injury and didn't return to the game.  There wasn't much of an indication about where and when he necessarily suffered the injury, but he only played in one shift in the 2nd period, according to the time on ice report, so we could assume that could be where he suffered the injury.  He'll be re-evaluated before the team's next game and hopefully an update will drop.

On defense, Troy's team hasn't seen much help from the blueline, as his team ranks 25th in defenseman games played, 41 games off the pace of top spot in the pool, but what he is getting has been scoring at a reasonable pace, ranking 13th in points per game, 0.435 to be exact.

After thinking it was a healthy scratch keeping Colin Wilson out of the Nashville Predators lineup, it turns out that it is a lower-body injury and it is seemingly much worse than just a healthy scratch.  The 26-year old forward has been placed on the Injured Reserve, likely retroactive to January 8th, due to the injury and there has been a recall to take his place in the lineup, which suggests that he will miss at least one game.

This injury adds to the woes of Tony's pool team this year, His team is in the middle of the pack in forward games played (last in defensemen games played), but in the top half of points per game for his forwards, so it really does appear to be more of a health and luck thing, more than anything this year.  Those are frustrating years, for sure.

Finally this morning, the Winnipeg Jets have also opted to put forward Mark Scheifele on the Injured Reserve, calling up Matt Halischuk to take his place in the lineup.  Scheifele was hurt last week, suffering a lower-body injury and has already missed some time with this injury.  The placement on the IR is retroactive to the 7th, which means he's eligible to come off any time now, but it sounds like it won't be until next week before we see him back on the ice.

Brian's team was hunting for the money earlier in the season, but has dropped off of late, falling down to 12th place.  His team still ranks tied for top spot in forward scoring rates, 0.72 points per game, but the decline in his team's health has seen his side drop down to tied for 11th in forward games played.
