Hamonic Hits the Shelf
The New York Islanders announced that defenseman Travis Hamonic will now be out of their lineup for about 2-to-3 weeks with his lower-body injury, which was initially posted on the blog on Saturday morning.
Hamonic was hurt on Friday night and was unavailable over the weekend for the Islanders and now it looks like he will be out just a while longer.
As of Tuesday morning, the 25-year old defenseman ranks 448th overall in pool scoring with 2 goals and 8 points this season, playing in 41 games. He hasn't exactly panned out offensively for the Islanders this year, but he is a steady minute-eater for the team and he plays a very physical game.
In the pool, he isn't being relied upon for his points, as Wes continues to lead the PIM pool this year, but he'll now miss out on a few weeks of a semi-regular visitor to the penalty box. Hamonic has 22 PIM this season and isn't a slouch on his team, in terms of trips to the box. Wes went into this week with a 48-minute lead, so he shouldn't be too worried at this point, one would think.
