Two players, who were primed to bring some added offense to their respective former teams, have been dealt for one another in a mid-January deal to help make good on both sides.
In the off-season the Anaheim Ducks signed on forward Carl Hagelin to help add a lot of speed and tenaciousness to their lineup, with the added hope that he would be able to find the net with the semi-regularity of his time on Broadway.
That didn't really pan out for the Ducks, as the preseason favourites (to many pundits) in the Pacific Division struggled out of the gates and despite a resurgence in the standings, Hagelin's game really hadn't come back around to being the helpful blue collar worker they were signing in the off-season.
With this deal, Hagelin returns to his former division, where he saw some significant successes and joins a team that needs a real shot in the arm in Pittsburgh.
In the pool, Dale C. sees one of his players move in this deal, as he hopes for a better spark out of Hagelin with this move. Dale's team is in a dogfight to stay in the top 10 at the moment, currently in 13th, only 1 point out of 10th and only 5 points out of 8th. Hagelin was taken with the 250th overall pick and currently ranks 350th in overall scoring, far from being a beneficial pick in this year's draft.
In David Perron's case, it is much of the same, only a little bit different, given that this is Perron's second season with the Penguins, his first being cut short terribly due to injury. The Penguins likely loved what they saw in season one, 22 points in 43 games, came to play most nights and was helping their cause out. In the 2016 season, Perron gets dealt at the same amount of games he finished with last year, short on points and the Penguins short on patience,, as their side hasn't been nearly as dominant as many would thought they've been with Perron in the lineup.
With the move to Anaheim, Perron gets a new lease on life, goes back to the Western Conference, where he spent a lot of time with St. Louis and Edmonton, seeing some good successes there as well and joins an Anaheim team, who will welcome him with a top six spot in the lineup, in all likelihood.
For Brenda & Seward, they had been getting about the same sort of value for their pick, as Dale was with Hagelin, as they took the 27-year old winger with the 174th pick in the draft and Perron currently ranks 268th overall in pool scoring. Nearly 100 picks difference.
Still, the pool's second duo ranks safely in 2nd place, only 4 points out of 1st, 20 points up on 3rd, so this trade has some potential to being a game-changer, if Perron can find his stride in Anaheim. Those 4 points could be made up quickly, if needed.
