Morning Player Notes in the Draft (Jan 23)
There was a bit of a stir created, when the Florida Panthers announced that forward Brandon Pirri would be a healthy scratch on Friday night against the Blackhawks, there was some suggestion of trade talks, but nothing has quite happened, if anything was to happen... except for the healthy scratch, that is. Pirri has 21 points in 46 games for the cats this year, but his production has seemingly disappeared of late, pointless in his last seven games.
It seems unlikely that Pirri is going to be traded at this point, unless he's in a package that brings back more than their fair share of return. So, Derek W. doesn't have to worry too much about one of his players leaving one of the hottest teams in the league, rather... he just has to worry about that player's production. Derek finished Friday night in 13th, 32 points out of the money.
It's been a tough year for the Rangers' Chris Kreider this season, as he has missed some significant time to injury already this year and now some neck spasms are to blame for another absence from the lineup. This muscle issue is one of those that is tough to gauge and to figure out when he would be ready to come back, so he'll remain day-to-day and the team will likely take it easy with his status.
Despite the injury problems, Kreider has been a bit of a bargain pick for Stuart this season, taken in the 8th round, the Rangers forward would be considered a 7th round pick, if you were to draft from their draft ranking today. Stuart's week hasn't been great, as his team has fallen off the pace a little bit, still in 5th, but now 9 points out of the money.
