The Flames have bolstered the blueline with a deal with the Avalanche that saw the Flames acquire Jordan Leopold for their most recent waiver claim, Lawrence Nycholat, a prospect and a draft pick. This opens up a lot of discussion in Calgary, as they are in play for Olli Jokinen.

In the pool, this deal doesn't have much of an effect in the Draft, but Leopold does sit in Box 14 on the Sheet. Not much of a big impact player with Trevor Daley having such a good season in Dallas. Leopold does go to a better offensive system, so that may make him more attractive, if a Sheet team wants to move their current Box 14 defenseman.Overall, this deal does open up the door to a lot more conversation about trade rumours, which could include Leopold going out right away or another big defenseman.
