Recent Contract Extensions (Feb 23)

The New York Islanders have a busy off-season ahead of them and they are looking to get a handle on it early.  One of the bigger pieces that was in need of attention was forward Josh Bailey, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.  The trick was to get him signed long-term and at a reasonable enough cost that they could possibly throw a little more to John Tavares, who is the biggest fish they need to lure back into their boat.

This mission was definitely accomplished, as the Islanders and Bailey agreed upon a 6-year, $30 million extension, which kicks in next season.  This deal is a huge bargain, considering Bailey is now ranked 21st overall in pool scoring, with 62 points in 58 games this year.
