Four picks and three passes highlighted the Waiver Draft action on Friday and it all kicked off with Jeremy dropping the injured Penguins forward Conor Sheary and picking up the often passed over Derek Ryan of the Carolina Hurricanes. Ryan has the numbers and is trade bait for the trade deadline this year, so he could find himself in a very promising situation in a few weeks time.
Speaking of Derek's, Derek B. needed to make a move in the crease, seeing another Penguins player fall victim to position where he's no good to his pool team, the minors. Tristan Jarry was demoted last week, so it opened up the move for Derek to try and take advantage of the Chicago goalie situation, picking Anton Forsberg to take his place.
Dale C. made a move "for the sake of making a move" swapping defenseman Anton Stralman of the Lightning for Ryan Pulock of the Islanders, trying to inject some youth and hopefully find a little bit more consistent scoring.
It was four straight picks in this 2nd round of the Waiver Draft, capped off with Stacey M. also trying to find some improvement on the blueline, dropping the disappointing Niklas Hjalmarsson in Arizona and picking up Jonas Brodin in Minnesota. It was an easy move, as Hjalmarsson only has 4 points this year, so just about anyone was going to be an improvement there.
That led to three straight passes: Clayton, Tony and Grant all opting to keep with the status quo. This leaves us with Brenda & Seward, as we crawl towards the finish of the Waiver Draft, which has taken much longer than expected.
