Week Eighteen Waiver Draft (Feb 1)

We made some real head way on Wednesday, finally, after a couple of slow days, seeing a number of passes and a few picks hit the list. Here's hoping that Thursday gets a little bit more action to it.

Scott's team passed through the 24-hour period for his pick, so we moved on in the morning, where Stacey C. also passed, but right away, instead of us having to wait.

Eric made the second move of the 2nd round of the draft, dropping underachieving defenseman Nick Holden in New York, picking up a relatively unknown defender (still!) in Mike Matheson in Florida, who has quietly gone about his business over the last couple of seasons and drawing up some pretty reasonable numbers in the process.

Ryan could find anything that would improve his team too greatly, so he opted to stay the course as well.

The PIM pool should be dominated by Wes down the stretch, thanks to the addition of Zack Kassian of the Oilers to his team, but unfortunately for ol' Wes, there's no money in it this year.  Still, that big number will look pretty good on the standings, I'm thinking.  On the outs for this team is Vancouver forward Sven Baertschi, who has seen brief flashes of scoring, but it wasn't enough to keep Wes' team alive.

There wasn't any diamonds in the rough for Neil, not without taking a 48-hour period for research and that just wouldn't do anyone any favours, so he just passed as well.

Finally, Troy dispatched of a long-term injury in the Rangers' Kevin Shattenkirk and then he turned around and invested a spot in the some more youth, adding Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun, who has also shown some flashes of being an everyday hockey pool defender in the last couple of years.

Now, we await Mike's decision and then we'll move forward!
