The New Jersey Devils elected to scratch both
Karel Rachunek (Box 16) and
Vitali Vishnevski (Box 22) on Monday versus the Hurricanes. Both players hadn't been playing up to the coach's expectation of late and couldn't recover their spots in the line-up before the key Eastern Conference tilt. Instead, Coach Sutter decided to dress
Sheldon Brookbank (non-pool) to play against his brother
Wade Brookbank (non-pool) for the first time in three meetings between the teams. The decision looked to be fairly wise, as the Devils came out on top, 5-1, in a pretty lopsided affair.
The Devils, this season, didn't really have a great core of defensemen to choose from for the pool, so it shouldn't come as much of a suprise that the team is shopping around for some more help before the trade deadline, which is now a week from today.
