Buckle up. Here we go. The Flyers started the trading festivities of the last 24 hours before the deadline with a deal that sends Vaclav Prospal (Jeff) from Tampa Bay to the Flyers for prospect defenseman, Alexandre Picard (Box 22) and a conditional pick in 2009.
Since the Flyers didn't have much luck landing Peter Forsberg (Wes), it isn't surprising that they jumped into the pool with a big splash. They've been splashing for some time already.
The Flyers did beat Buffalo on Monday night, which brought them back into the playoff picture on a tiebreaker, so now the job of Prospal will be to help the team remain in the mix. Of course, his job is quite difficult, as the team, as earlier reported, will be without forward Mike Richards (Benson) for the next three weeks with a hamstring injury.

Conditional Pick in 2009 |
The Lightning do gain a good young defenseman in Picard, who hasn't seen much time this season with the big club due to a good core of defensemen through the season, and upwards of a second round pick in 2009, if the Flyers do well in these playoffs. Picard will be a Restricted Free Agent, but they are much easier to sign in the off-season than the unrestricted type.
