Islanders Lose Sutton Long Term

The Islanders will be working without one of their stronger defenders for the next 4 to 6 weeks. Andy Sutton (Box 22) suffered a partial tear in his hamstring on Sunday against the San Jose Sharks.

The expected return date of the hulking defenseman should be before the end of the regular season, so he may not be a complete write-off, although 6 weeks is more than enough reason to make a move away from him, if at all possible. On the Sheet, Sutton wasn't taken at all, so no immediate moves will be made there.

The Islanders are already without Chris Campoli (Ryan) with a shoulder injury, which will keep him out of the line-up for the remainder of the season. Tack on Sutton's injury, Brendan Witt's (non-pool) MCL injury and Bruno Gervais' (non-pool) oblique injury; you have yourself quite the pickle for a team that is only one point out of a playoff spot at the moment.

Over the next week, the Isles will have to play the Capitals, Lightning and Devils before the trade deadline and it could be very likely that the Islanders might be a seller come the deadline. It will be really tough to win games without key defenders this week (and weeks to come).

Watch for interest in Mike Comrie (John B.), Miroslav Satan (Stuart), Trent Hunter (Box 20), Ruslan Fedotenko (Box 21) and Josef Vasicek (non-pool) to peak in the coming days.
