The Capitals have acquired Sergei Fedorov (Box 7) from the Columbus Blue Jackets for prospect defenseman Ted Ruth (non-pool).

Ted Ruth, D | 19 | 0 | 0 | RFA |
The Capitals add a veteran Russian centre to play along with Alexander Ovechkin (Clayton) and/or Alexander Semin (Dale C.), which must come as a positive for both players and it translates into something that is good for the team. If the two Alex's are happy, they'll score and they'll start to win some more.
Ted Ruth was a Washington second round pick last summer, who is a medium sized defender having a decent year in the NCAA. The Blue Jackets add a good prospect for a veteran forward who they were going to lose in the summer, by all accounts.
Results will be the true measure of this deal... if Washington makes a playoff push for the first time with Ovechkin, this deal could be considered a success.
