Salvador for Janssen

On TSN's TradeCentre on TV, they reported that the Devils acquired defenseman Bryce Salvador (non-pool) for forward Cam Janssen (non-pool) this morning. The first trade of the day isn't a blockbuster, but it gives the Devils some more defense heading down the stretch towards the playoffs.

To St. Louis
Cam Janssen, F2300RFA

The Devils get themselves a strong defensive blueliner who will add some depth to the team, but not a great deal of scoring. It looks as though the Devils want to protect Martin Brodeur (Don) a little bit more, which may give their superstar goalie another shutout or two down the stretch and possibly an extra layer of protection through the playoffs against teams like Philly or Ottawa who are offensively gifted.

In Janssen, the Blues receive a tough guy who hasn't played at all this season, but that shouldn't take away from his desire to protect his teammates, whoever they are.

Both players are potential free agents and both are likely to sign with their new teams come the off-season.
