The Hurricanes acquired forward Tuomo Ruutu (Box 3) from the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Andrew Ladd (non-pool).

Ruutu has been sort of lost in the shuffle in Chicago with the new youth movement, but it wasn't like it was for no reason. Ruutu's production has suffered over the past few seasons, mostly due to injury, but also when he has been healthy, he just hasn't found the chemistry a guy would need to score. A change of scenary has got to be one of the more inviting ideas to this deal, which is a big plus for the Hurricanes.
Andrew Ladd was drafted with a pretty high upside and since he's so young, he may be able to mesh a little bit easier with the likes of Jonathan Toews (Chris) and Patrick Kane (Marcus). This isn't a definite, but it does make a little more sense. Head coach Denis Savard does run a little bit more run & gun with the young guys, so there's where the equation comes into play.
Both players are looking to become Restricted Free Agents and will likely get a long look from their new clubs.
