Blue Jackets Training Camp Roster

We've already seen the Blue Jackets rookie roster posted on the blog already, but now the club has their training camp roster, which includes most of the rookies on their roster as well, but that's likely because they are still in camp and will still have to be cut away. A part of me expects to see half of the rookies to be dispatched before the main camp begins.

The Blue Jackets have a jam packed organization at the moment, including a fairly solid group on the top part of their roster and a good number of fringe players, not to mention some top end prospects.  I'm thinking that the coaching staff for the Blue Jackets will be in tough trying to round out a roster... which isn't a bad place to be in.

Salary CapThe top part of the Blue Jackets table here in this post is what I'm considering as the roster and everyone is in camp trying to knock guys out of it.  The roster I have on top has 13 forwards, seven defense and the goaltending tandem on it, add in a buyout to the books and you'll come up with their annual salary cap hit of $54.5 million, well below the cap ceiling.  The Blue Jackets are in pretty good shape going into training camp and the regular season, when it comes to their books as well.

Looking at some of the prospects that are on the table for Columbus, I have a suspicion that if any of them were to force their way onto the roster, it will be because they have shown off the right skills to be there, more likely in the offensive fashion.  Saying that, I might be inclined to start looking at Jackets camp more intently, trying to find those sleeper picks that may help my draft team come opening night.
