Training Camp Roster for the Panthers

The Florida Panthers opened up their rookie camp on Sunday and will take on the Nashville Predators rookies on Wednesday and Thursday, just before the actual camp opens up on Friday.  I was able to find the entire training camp roster for the Panthers this afternoon, which had the rookie camp and the training camp roster combined, so I'll work with what I have here.

The Panthers have picked up a number of camp invites, notably Tyler Arnason, who played in Europe and the AHL in 2010.

Looking at their roster posted below, it looks like the Panthers are going to be looking for a few defensemen out of this camp.   Nathan Paetsch, Keaton Ellerby and Jason Garrison would be who I'm looking for to take those last three defense spots, but that's really just a guess at the moment.

Salary CapThe Panthers are definitely a budget team for the time being, but as they build through the draft and move along the lines of building a team that can make a run for the playoffs, I imagine that will change.  Currently, I have the Panthers with 20 signed players on the top half of their roster, plus two buyouts and they all come in at annual cap hit of $48.2 million, safely inside the confines of the salary cap ceiling and floor.  I don't think the Panthers have much else up their sleeve at the moment, so this should be a good number to work with this year.

The one thing that I see when I look at the Panthers roster is that is resembles more of a patchwork quilt, with a lot of pieces picked from other teams and assembled together to make their own squad.  The Southeast Division is going to be wide open, so the Panthers should still be able to use some of their natural talents to score some goals, but I'm not sure how well that will translate into winning games.
