On Wednesday night against the Canucks, Avalanche goalie Craig Anderson was forced out of the game after the 1st period with what is believed to be a groin injury. Anderson, who had recently returned from a freak knee injury, got the start for the Avalanche, surrendered one goal on seven shots and left the game after the first 20 minutes.
There is no word early on as to how bad the injury is, but any injury now will definitely raise the value of his back-up Peter Budaj in hockey pool scoring.
Anderson has only played in nine games for the Avalanche, including Wednesday night against the Canucks, amassing a 4-4-0 record for 8 points in the pool this year. Since he has missed out on 10 games already this year, his overall numbers are likely going to suffer, especially if the injury he has just suffered is more severe than hoped.
Anderson was the second goalie taken by Benson in the draft, going 34th overall in the 2nd round of the initial player selection, so he should have been thought of as the 1b goalie for Benson's team this year. In the last few weeks, Benson's goaltending as a whole has really let him down, dropping him from 1st place in Week Four down to 8th place in Week Eight, which is a significant drop, but if his goalies can get back on pace again, he might be able to climb back into the money conversation.
