It was a return to the press box for Sabres Box 28 defenseman Craig Rivet on Wednesday night, as his team battled the Devils for a comeback win in the shootout. With the Sabres struggling as mightily as they have this year, I do find it rather surprising that they have moved away from the veteran presence in their line-up. I begin to wonder if he has lost a step or two and can't keep up. His offensive numbers certainly are not keeping him in the line-up, 1 assist in 12 games this year.
With the return of Marian Gaborik upon us on Thursday night, the Rangers eerily achieve some sort of balance with Michal Rozsival having to leave the line-up with a shoulder injury, which is expected to keep the blueliner out for at least a week. Apparently, Rozsival has been trying to play through the injury, but enough seems to be enough and a week's rest should do him a lot of good. The Rangers will miss him, since he has 8 points in 15 games already this year and is one of the top defensemen available for the waiver draft.
According to some reports I've read, Mike Comrie missed out on practice because of a bout of the flu, so when he was scratched from the Penguins game against the Bruins on Thursday night, the lingering effects should be considered to be a good reason to miss a game. Comrie has yet to find his preseason stride in the regular season, having only 5 assists in 14 games to start the year.
