With the injury bug hitting the Colorado blueline so hard, the Avalanche were forced to make a deal and it looks like they have found a cheaper route to help plug some gaps for the time being.
The Avalanche acquired Ryan O'Byrne from the Canadiens for a 2010 3rd round pick in Michael Bournival, a player that I imagine the Canadiens were looking at as one of their draft-able prospects.
O'Byrne has found him on the outside looking in on the Canadiens blueline after 15 games into their season, having only played in three. In the last team update I had posted for the Canadiens, O'Byrne was pretty far down in the depth chart, with PK Subban below him, due to less points in the regular season. The inevitable happened and O'Byrne was surpassed and has now turned into a decent trading chip for the Habs, who pick up some young French talent.
In 128 career games, O'Byrne has 2 goals and 14 assists, a -3 rating and 181 penalty minutes.
