The Ottawa Senators went into battle against the Los Angeles Kings without their bright young defensive star Erik Karlsson, because the Swede was suffering from a bout of the flu. Karlsson did not dress for practice on Monday morning and was counted out of the game fairly early in the day, giving David Hale a chance to dress for the Sens. The Senators did manage to pull out a 3-2 victory over the Kings and the team will go again on Wednesday, as they host the Dallas Stars.
There was also some mention that the Senators coaching staff also wanted to sit Karlsson for some poor play of late, but the 11 points in 20 games to start the year doesn't look too bad on paper, but obviously the coaching staff has seen a little bit more to warrant the need for a lock from above. If healthy enough, I would imagine that Karlsson draws back in against Dallas on Wednesday.
In the draft, Karlsson belongs to Larry, who currently sits in 5th place, 1 point out of the money, 2 points out of 3rd place, 9 points out of 2nd and 11 points out of 1st. Missing out of a game from anyone at this point has got to be hard on a team in that position, even at the half a point-per-game scoring rate that Karlsson gives you. Thankfully, it's only one game for the defender... in theory.
