An upper-body injury has sidelined Hurricanes defenseman Joni Pitkanen this weekend, already missing out on Friday night's contest against the Panthers and likely to miss Saturday night's game rematch in a home and home series. Pitkanen was reportedly hurt on Monday night, but managed to play in one period on Wednesday and that was enough for this week by the sounds of things. He is currently listed as out day-to-day.
Pitkanen hasn't had the best of starts to the season, but he has managed to put some points up on the board for the Hurricanes. In 12 games with the club, he has just 1 goal and 4 assists and has been pointless in his last five appearances. Of course, his last appearance only lasted six minutes on the ice, so it's hard to count that one.
In the draft, the Finnish blueliner belongs to Derek W., who currently sits in 16th spot, already 20 points out of the money spots in the standings. Derek chose Pitkanen quite high in the draft this year, taking him in the 5th round, 99th overall, likely in a panic to get some top level defensemen early. So far, this hasn't been the best of strategies in the pool.
