A couple of injury notes from Washington may have a couple teams with some concerns in the draft this morning.
Monday versus the Devils, Michal Neuvirth was scheduled to make the start, but a morning skate muscle tweak was the end of that notion, as he was not able to dress for the game. In his place, Braden Holtby made the start and Semyon Varlamov was called up from his conditioning stint in the AHL to play as back-up. The Capitals ended up losing the game 5-0.
Well, not only did the Capitals lose the game badly, it appears that they have also lost the services of Mike Green and Tyler Sloan to injury, both leaving the game against the Devils.
Neuvirth assumed the number one job with the Capitals with the injury to Varlamov earlier in the season and has not disappointed in his time in the Washington crease. With such an offensive force in front of him, it shouldn't be too hard to generate wins. Appearing in 19 games this season, Neuvirth has picked up a record of 12-3-1 with 1 shutout, which is good for 26 points in the pool this year. Going into Week Eight, those 26 points was good enough to rank 8th in the pool in scoring, meaning he was quite the pick-up this year.
Unfortunately, I do not have much more for information about Green's injury at the moment, but if there is anything of any long-term effect, there will be a post up on the blog.
Well, there really isn't much news of value here, but all I can tell you is that both Kristy and Don's team and Larry's team are both waiting for news on their players, hoping for the best right away. Kristy and Don are sitting in the final money spot, 4th place, thanks in large part to Neuvirth's numbers, so they will hope that the muscle tweak isn't too serious, while Larry, who currently sits in 5th, right behind Kristy and Don, is waiting on one of his top defensemen. Very important hours to their success.
