Brodeur Instructed to Rest

After another MRI on Martin Brodeur's ailing elbow, it has been re-affirmed that the elbow is just bruised, but team doctor's have advised the veteran goaltender that he should be taking at least the next 10 days off to rest the injury and get himself back into the Devils line-up at 100%.  This likely isn't going to help the situation in New Jersey, as they continue to struggle in the Atlantic Division.

Brodeur has played in 17 games for the Devils this year, but the team in front of him and his play has not done the team many favours in the standings.  A 4-10-1 record with 2 shutouts is all Brodeur has to show for his start, which only equates to 12 points in the pool this year, well down from previous seasons.  Unofficially, those 12 points has Brodeur ranked 137th in the league, 27th among goalies, in pool scoring.

ImplicationsThis is not good news for Clayton's pool team, as Brodeur is Clayton's 1st round pick and missed time by a player picked that high really hurts.  Granted, the performance of this pick is quite telling, as Clayton goes into Saturday's action near the bottom of the standings in the draft, 19th place, already 43 points behind the last money spot.  The waiver draft cannot come too soon for him.
