The Pittsburgh Penguins have suffered a setback in terms of getting their number three centre back into the line-up, as Jordan Staal, who had returned to Penguins practice from a tendon injury in his foot, was hit in the hand by a puck and has suffered a broken bone in that hand.
Staal was set to be out for six weeks from his foot injury, set to come off the Long Term Injury Reserve this week, before this hand injury occurred. Staal will now miss at least another six weeks, taking him all the way into the middle of December.
Someone in the draft did take a chance on Staal being back in the line-up for about this time, missing out on a month of action, just to have his potential on the team for his return. Derek W. will now have to decide when the first waiver draft comes around, whether or not to switch Staal for another player then or just avoid the cursed one for the remainder of the season. This setback definitely hurts the long-term value of Derek's team.
