Amongst all the major amounts of speculation, the Canadiens have announced that defenseman Andrei Markov will be out of the Canadiens line-up indefinitely with his knee injury, although no details have not really been given. If we were to analyze the speculation and the rumours, Markov should be out anywhere between three to six months, even going as far as being done for the entire regular season.
The knee that was injured was the one that was surgically repaired in the off-season, which would be hard to comment whether or not that is more devastating than hurting it from being 100%. Markov did return about a month earlier than expected from the injury, which should lead to more concern after suffering the new injury.
Markov only managed to sneak into seven games for the Canadiens this season, scoring 1 goal and adding 2 assists. If his season is indeed done, that will be his end-of-season total... 3 points in seven games.
In the draft, Markov was actually taken by John P. on the merit that Markov is a quick healer and would be back to his usual offensive ways in the Habs line-up, making him into a decent pick. Well, one part of that was definitely correct, Markov did heal quickly, but he didn't put up the points immediately and it wasn't taken into consideration that he may be a bit more injury prone now in his knee.
I'm expecting to see Markov hitting the list for dropped players in the waiver draft, which is coming up fairly soon.
