Some sputtering offense from Michael Del Zotto had earned the 20-year old blueliner a trip up to the press box for the Rangers' game against the Senators on Thursday night and he was reportedly told by coach Tortorella to do some homework in regards to the power play and breaking it down in the game. Of course, this is something for the youngster to help grow the mental part of his game and hopefully get him to bounce back onto the scoresheet.
In 29 games this season, Del Zotto has only managed to pick up 2 goals and 6 assists, which is nearly half the pace that he was scoring at during his rookie season last year. Del Zotto is a dynamic offensive force when he is on his game and it should be only a matter of time before he manages to click in and make things happen again. The sophomore slump is known to be a bit of a killer, but thankfully, that only lasts for one season.
One season may be one too many for Larry, who included Del Zotto in his group of superior defensemen for the 2011 season. Larry's team currently sits in 14th place after Thursday night's action, sitting only 5 points out of the top 10. Larry's group of defensemen have been a bit of a bust this season, currently ranking 9th in scoring in that category, already 34 points back of the best defensive group, which belongs to Benson. Larry is definitely hoping that this scratching does get Del Zotto back on track, so he can climb the ladder again.
