Life isn't all that grand in the KHL it seems, as Marek Svatos, who left for Russia in the Summer as a free agent, had split with his new European side lately and was then looking for a new home in North America. On Tuesday morning, he had found one by signing a 1-year, two-way deal worth $800,000 (pro-rated for the remainder of the season, roughly $443,011). Before playing, Svatos will have to clear waivers over the next 24 hours, but at the price he signed for, I get the feeling that it should pass without issue.
In the 2010 season, Svatos finished with only 11 points (7 goals and 4 assists) in 54 games with the Avalanche, but he did have one season where he scored 32 goals in 61 games (2006), so the talent is there.
The Blues are a budget team, but with all of their injury woes and concerns, they will have plenty of cap space to deal with this signing and obviously have a roster spot open for him, upon clearing waivers. He may turn into a decent find for the Blues, one we may have to keep an eye on for the second waiver draft in the pool.
