It continues to be a long road for Rick DiPietro, as the injury-troubled goaltender has now been placed on the injured reserve to help make room for another body while he deals with the swelling in his knee. The injured reserve placement was likely retroactive to when he first left the line-up, so the amount of obligatory time away from the line-up has likely already been taken down to the minimum amount, but having to go on the injured reserve does not bode well for him.
I would imagine that DiPietro should still be considered out day-to-day until otherwise stated, but having space for active bodies is a must for the Islanders, who are battling with the New Jersey Devils for last place in the Eastern Conference/league.
