On Friday night, the Ducks made a little extra roster room with the scratching of Andy Sutton from their line-up for their game against the Flames. Sutton has not quite been the 'tower of power' that the Ducks were hoping for when they acquired him his Summer, taking a few more bad penalties and possibly having troubles adjusting. Some time in the press box should sort him out for that.
In a bit of a surprise move, the Flames decided to sit Box 3 centre Matt Stajan for their game against the Ducks on Friday night. Stajan was set to be the team's number one centre going into this season, but with only 1 goal and 15 assists in 25 games this season, his contributions are beginning to be questioned. With a 3-2 shootout loss in the books from Friday night, I would imagine Stajan draws back in on Monday.
Speaking of expectations not being met, the Columbus Blue Jackets have decided to send their snakebitten future superstar, Nikita Filatov, down to the AHL for an assignment, likely to try and get his confidence and thus, his scoring touch, back to normal competitive levels. Filatov was coming in with plenty of hype, but with only 7 assists this season, he hasn't lived up to any of that hype this year. I expect Filatov to be in the minors for a while, enough time to score some goals, before making a return to the club, but he should return, eventually this year.
It was a pretty quick showing for Bobby Butler and the Ottawa Senators, but in 4 games with the club, Butler hasn't registered a point and was a -3, so he too is on his way back down to the AHL, where he has 15 goals and 8 assists in 25 contests with the Binghamton Senators. Butler would likely have to improve some other parts in his game before he makes any glorious return to the big club this season, I'm thinking.
