It was a role reversal for the first time in quite a while, as Craig Rivet made it back into the Sabres line-up and Chris Butler was taken out as a healthy scratch. The two defensemen made a habit of going in and out of the Sabres' line-up in the early part of the season, but Butler had a pretty good run of game before Tuesday night. Rivet made the most of his return as well, scoring a goal and adding an assist in the game against Anaheim.
Veteran forward Chris Clark was made into a healthy scratch again on Tuesday night, a role he has seen a couple of times already this season. Leading up to Tuesday night, Clark had three straight games where he figured into the minus column in his plus/minus rating and that was likely good enough reason to find his way to the press box. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if he saw another game or two up top after the team's win against Calgary.
An illness has kept Box 5 forward Gilbert Brule from joining his mates on their current road trip before the holiday break and he is expected to not only miss Tuesday night's loss to San Jose, he will also miss Thursday night's trip into Los Angeles. The Oilers didn't want to take any chances with the health of the rest of the team, so Brule was just told to stay home and get an early jump on the holidays. I would imagine he'll be ready to suit up for Sunday's bout in Vancouver.
