It appears that Jean-Sebastien Giguere will likely miss a good chunk of time again after re-injuring his groin this weekend. Giguere, who started and won his last start against the Bruins (a 5-4 shootout victory), tweaked his groin at some point during the game and now caution will be thrust upon the veteran goaltender, as the team won't likely want to rush him back, especially with Jonas Gustavsson playing fairly well, winning last night against the Capitals. There is no exact timetable for Giguere's return, but I would imagine that at least a week will be missed due to the injury.
Giguere has now appeared in 14 games for the Maple Leafs this season, amassing a record of 6-5-2, with a GAA of 2.82, but a save percentage of under .900. It has been an alright start to the season for Giguere, especially on a team in the middle of a rebuild, but now going down with an injury for the second time this season, can't be good for his spirits.
His 6 wins are good for 12 points in the pool thus far in the season, which ranked him 230th in pool scoring at the beginning of the week, 32nd among goalies. Being out of the top 30 suggests that he isn't a very good pick as a starting goaltender, but I'm sure most of you thought that anyways, since he plays for the Maple Leafs to begin with.
Nevertheless, he is still a member of a draft team, even after the first waiver draft this season and it is Jani that hopes that Giguere's stay on the shelf is much shorter than anyone expects out of this injury. Jani currently sits in 15th position, 38 points out of the last money spot in the standings and now he will be without his 7th round, 128th overall pick.
