The St. Louis Blues are not expecting to have their up-and-coming premier defenseman in the line-up tonight as they take on the Red Wings in Detroit on Wednesday night. Alex Pietrangelo has reportedly been suffering from an upper-body injury over an undisclosed period of time and now the team is taking precautions to make sure that the injury doesn't get worse, rather try to get him back to 100%.
Pietrangelo has been developing in the Blues system for a few seasons now and all of their hard work seems to be paying off with a solid season from the soon-to-be 21-year old defenseman. In 28 games this season, Pietrangelo has 3 goals and 12 assists for 15 points, which is good for better than a half a point-per-game scoring pace, which should be considered good for defensemen. At the beginning of the week, I had him ranked 194th among all players in hockey pool scoring, 25th among defensemen, which speaks volumes to his development.
Our leader in the draft, Allan, managed to snake Pietrangelo out of the 14th and final round of the first draft this season and hasn't looked back. Allan has opened up an 11-point lead after Tuesday night's action and now one of his dark horse picks will now be out of action for at least a night. I don't think it's anything he can't handle at the moment.
