Draft Player Scratches (Dec 29)

A scary moment for the Ducks on Tuesday night against the Coyotes, as Ryan Getzlaf ended up taking a deflected slap shot to the face, opening up a pretty big wound on his forehead.  Getzlaf left the game for repairs, which included 10 stitches to close up the gash, and didn't return.  The coaching staff didn't want to risk Getzlaf any further without testing him more, so he wasn't able to play again, but will likely get re-evaluated on Wednesday to see when he can go again.

This isn't the kind of news Clayton C. wants to see from his players, especially his 2nd round pick.  Getzlaf has fallen under the point-per-game scoring pace and wasn't able to pick a point up last night, keeping his pool team down in 19th place after Tuesday night's action.

If the reports happen to be true, Niclas Bergfors is on the trading block with the Atlanta Thrashers for reasons still unpublished, but I think it is a safe bet that it has to do with his play with the team, which has some underwhelming numbers this year.  It could also have a lot to do with dealing with a new coach or possibly some new teammates, but that is just pure speculation on my part there.

Wayne H. decided to take a shot on Bergfors at the first waiver draft and has only seen his new player play four games with the Thrashers and only 1 assist has come out of it.  Fortunately for Wayne, the rest of his team has been going great guns and he currently sits in 3rd place in the standings.  If the Thrashers could move the forward, it could be trouble for the top two teams in the pool.

Sounds like some bad news is coming out of Chicago after Tuesday night's game between the Blackhawks and Blues, as Jonathan Toews left the game with an apparent shoulder injury after taking a big hit from Matt D'Agostini.  There is no immediate word as to the extent of the injury, but I would have to believe the Blackhawks are holding their breath waiting for the results of the shoulder tests.

The Blackhawks are not likely going to be the only ones holding their breath, as Stuart G. is waiting to hear more about his 2nd round pick this year.  Toews has been Stuart's 2nd/3rd best forward on the team this year and after Tuesday's action, Stuart sits in 6th place, 8 points out of the money.
