The Tampa Bay Lightning are not expecting to have Steve Downie in their line-up for an indefinite period of time, thanks to a sprained ankle that he suffered in the week. The initial fear was that Downie had broken his ankle, which would be a fairly significant injury, but if the sprain is as bad as it sounds, Downie could be out of the line-up for just as long, if not longer, than a broken ankle would keep him out.
There was a lot of expectations about how good Downie's game would be for an 82-game season, supposedly going to be playing with Steven Stamkos, but that really didn't work out to be the case. In 23 games this season, Downie has only picked up 3 goals and 12 assists, which isn't bad, but isn't the numbers that we were all expecting, even if he was only going to get the scraps on a game-by-game basis.
In the draft, this injury may have come at an opportune time, as Kristy and Don still haven't had a chance to make their second move in the waiver draft this week, as it's still a pretty slow-go of things. Downie was a 13th round pick, 244th overall and his 15 points has him ranked 152nd in pool scoring, so he was turning out to be quite the bargain pick this season. Unfortunately, the difference between 152nd and 244th is only 4 points and this injury could make that drop possible.
Kristy and Don currently sit in the final money spot, 4th place, only 1 point up on Wayne in 5th and only 1 point behind Benson for 3rd, so keeping a roster healthy may be in order.
