An injury scare on Friday night, as the Colorado Avalanche have seemingly lost one of their top wingers, Milan Hejduk, to a groin injury. Hejduk had to leave the game against the Thrashers in Atlanta with the ailment in the 3rd period and it doesn't sound like Hejduk will be ready to play again for a little while yet, according to this article here. Since there is no confirmation, we'll just consider him day-to-day with the groin problem, but the potential for more is there.
Hejduk has revived his play from years of previous glory, likely from playing with excellent young talent like Matt Duchene. In 28 games with the Avalanche, he has scored 11 goals and 20 assists, to have a scoring rate better than a point-per-game. It has literally been years since we've seen Hejduk score at that pace and he has immediately shoved himself into the conversation as one of the best bargains in the hockey pool this season.
It's safe to assume that Chris M. is hoping for the best case scenario with Hejduk's injury, since he's in the thick of the draft money race, now sitting 10 points out of 1st, in 2nd place. I think Chris owes a great deal of his success to Hejduk, who he chose in the 10th round, 195th overall. After Friday night's action, Hejduk was ranked 14th in pool scoring. What a bargain! If the injury becomes long-term, Chris may fall out of the money's favour, which is bad news for him.
