The Flyers received some bad news this week. They added to their injury losses when both R.J. Umberger (Dale C.) and Derian Hatcher (non-pool) were sidelined with injuries.
Umberger will be lost for the next couple of weeks due to a sprained MCL. He was having a productive season for the Flyers scoring 49 points (12G, 37A) in 71 games and was a second waiver draft pick up for Dale. Dale was looking to pass pool rival, Don, in the last couple weeks, but that task has gotten to be much more difficult without this key player.
Hatcher will now miss the remainder of the hockey season with a broken leg. He's been on and off the injured list all season for the Flyers, which is hardly what you want out of a guy who is being paid $3.5 million per season.
With these injuries, the Flyers will have a hard time fending off the Washington Capitals for 8th spot in the East. The Capitals won yesterday against the Predators to bring themselves within 2 points of the struggling Flyers.
