It's been a rough rookie season for Blackhawks centre, Jonathan Toews (Chris). He suffered through a broken finger at the beginning of the year (missing 2 games) Toews had also missed time with a knee injury, which cost him 16 games through the middle of the year.
Toews left the ice bleeding from his face five minutes into the third period yesterday after taking an elbow from Vancouver's Matt Pettinger (non-pool). In a statement released on Monday, he will be good to go on Wednesday at home to Anaheim, but he'll be wearing a protective cage over his face for some extra protection.
Unfortunately, Toews had suffered so many injuries, it doesn't seem likely that he'll receive much consideration for the Calder Trophy for the league's best rookie. In 47 games this season, Toews has 43 points (18G, 25A) for the Blackhawks.
