Young Players Added for Calgary

The Calgary Flames prospects will also be heading to Penticton, BC to play in the tournament that is being hosted by the Canucks. Their current roster is already pretty deep with signed players, so other than Mikael Backlund, who should have a spot on the regular roster already, I would imagine that most of these guys will also be playing for training camp spots and hopefully long looks at that.

The prospects group for the Flames is on the slow road to recovery after a number of years without solid talent in their system.

I am expecting Backlund to excel in this rookie tournament, as he has had plenty of experience playing with the big boys and he'll likely get better with more game action like this. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to reading about Logan MacMillan and Greg Nemisz up front, John Negrin and Keith Seabrook on the blueline and Leland Irving in net.  Of course, I'm expecting a few more names to hit the main camp on the 17th, but these are the guys that I can see excelling in this tournament and earning some longer looks.

Really, this is just advanced scouting for pool drafts down the road, certainly not this year... unless you're still counting Backlund.
