A tweet this afternoon has the Atlanta Thrashers taking off another one of the top draftable free agents remaining, as Nigel Dawes has signed a 1-year, two-way deal, reportedly worth $600,000. Dawes was made into an unrestricted free agent this Summer by the Flames when they bought the grinding winger out of the last year of his contract.
Dawes had a reasonable year with the Calgary Flames in 2010, scoring 14 goals and adding 18 assists in 66 games. Dawes missed 10 games due to a leg injury and was scratched for the remaining six that he missed, but otherwise, he does bring some grit and some hands to the party, possibly making a good fit with Evander Kane, Dustin Byfuglien or Ben Eager.
