It appears that Anton Babchuk was a healthy scratch for the Flames on Monday afternoon against the St. Louis Blues, as there has been very little mention of him in game recaps. Babchuk was replaced in the line-up by Derek Smith, who made his Flames debut, picking up 15 minutes worth of ice in the game. It's hard to say why Babchuk was chosen to take the spot up in the press box, his game against the Penguins was not bad in his numbers, but likely it was a change for chemistry purposes.
Babchuk failed to register a point in his only appearance this year, versus the Penguins, but was a +1 in the game.
That's not exactly the kind of news Scott G. wants to hear about one of his defensemen early on this year, but it is a reality we'll all likely have to deal with this season at one point or another. Scott has gotten off to a slow start to Week Two, not registering a point on Monday night, dropping down from 4th to 9th.
