2012 4th Round Draft Pick

A minor deal went down on Friday afternoon, which saw the Coyotes acquire a little bit more depth at centre by picking up Cal O'Reilly from the Nashville Predators for a mid-round pick in the next Entry Draft.

The Coyotes, who are off to a rough start in the 2012 season, needed to address some depth down the middle, especially from a player that can slide up and down their roster to help out in a few different spots.  With the apparent loss of Kyle Turris to a contract holdout and/or trade demands, the Coyotes needed to address this spot with an NHL-ready body.

O'Reilly might be able to slide anywhere in between the second and third lines for the Coyotes, as he is touted as an undersized playmaking centre.  There is a slight chance, with this change in scenery and a change in linemates, he might be able to work himself into pool consideration this year, where he has had none to this point.
