The San Jose Sharks demoted a couple of bubble young players that were listed on the selection sheet this season, forward Benn Ferreiro and defenseman Justin Braun. Both Ferreiro and Braun featured in a number of games for the club in the 2011 season, which would have almost made them a lock for a spot this season, but that wasn't exactly the case. The Sharks do have a number of other cuts to make, by the looks of things, but it is somewhat shocking that these two have been cut by this time.
On Monday morning, the Toronto Maple Leafs took one of their last steps to finalizing their opening night roster, cutting five players from their roster, including Box 30 defenseman Keith Aulie, who didn't have to clear waivers to be sent down. Aulie was thought to be a solid lock for a roster spot at the end of the 2011 season, but some extra depth that was acquired in the off-season made the spot a little more difficult to secure and with the flexibility of not having to go through waivers made it much easier to send him down to comply with the roster rules than possibly losing another veteran to the waiver wire.
