On Tuesday afternoon, the Chicago Blackhawks trimmed their roster down to 25 players by cutting Box 9 forward Jeremy Morin, sending him down to Rockford of the AHL. Morin, who was bothered by post-concussion symptoms at the early part of training camp this year, likely will get a lot more top six minutes with the minor league club, helping his transition to being a top six player for the big club, eventually. Morin had a real shot at a roster spot this year, but he'll likely be one of the first call-ups when the team needs him too.
Tough news for Minnesota Wild goaltender Josh Harding, as the Box 16 goaltender has suffered an ankle injury over the weekend and is questionable to start backing-up Niklas Backstrom on Saturday evening. Harding, who is returning from a major knee injury that cost him the 2011 season, is not getting the start of the 2012 season that he may have wanted. Consider him day-to-day for right now, but keep this in mind when putting together your selection sheet picks.
The Nashville Predators have decided that they will start the season with Ryan Ellis, a Box 14 defenseman, in the minors with their AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals. Ellis, a diminutive defender, has all kinds of offensive upside, but his size continues to be a regular concern for the team, who play in a very physical division. Ellis will likely see some time in the coming year, since he is a bit of a spark plug offensively and injuries are bound to happen, so don't lose too much hope for him, but do stay away from him initially this season.
